Grande paid tribute to the late rapper, who died in 2018. Mac Miller and Ariana Grande perform during the One Love Manchester Benefit Concert on June 4, 2017, in Manchester, England. Ariana Grande Ariana Grande Chokes Up During Mac Miller Hometown TributeAriana Grande was devastated by how it all ended with Mac Miller. She had broken up with the Swimming artist months beforehand after their relationship had turned toxic, her desire to be a rock for him in his ongoing battle with substance abuse not able to conquer all. She understandably couldn't bear to watch him go down that destructive road. "Unconditional love is not selfish. It is wanting the best for that person even if at the moment, it's not you," Grande wrote in May 2018, her first public comment regarding their breakup. "I can't wait to know and support you forever and I'm so proud of you!!" Instead, Miller was found dead of an accidental overdose Sept. 7, 2018, at the age of 26, leaving Grande to only be able to wish for a chance to tell him in person what he meant to her—as she expressed on her smash-hit "thank u next" and has never stopped expressing, even as she has moved on in her personal life, recently announcing her engagement to Dalton Gomez."It's pretty all-consuming," she told Vogue in the summer of 2019, referring to the grief she was still processing. "By no means was what we had perfect, but, like, f--k. He was the best person ever, and he didn't deserve the demons he had. I was the glue for such a long time, and I found myself becoming...less and less sticky. The pieces just started to float away." What hasn't floated away is her appreciation for everything she got from her time with Miller, who was born Malcolm McCormick and would have turned 29 today, and what she's learned about herself since. In June 2019, Grande got choked up during a show in his hometown of Pittsburgh when she got to the "wish I could say thank you to Malcolm, 'cause he was an angel" part of "thank u next," Miller's music having also been playing when concertgoers filed into the arena earlier in the the 2020 Grammys, where she performed an emotional medley of John Lennon's "Imagine" along with her "7 rings" and "thank u next," she shared several videos to her Instagram Story of her kicking back after her big night. In two of them, the Florida native was wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers shirt, an open nod to Miller's beloved hometown team. As recently as October, fans caught what certainly felt like a Miller reference in the sound of crickets chirping in the background of "Just like Magic" and on the title track of her sixth studio album, positions. A previously unreleased track from Miller called "Crickets" had dropped earlier in the / Splash NewsBut her heavenly musical references to the late rapper began with the album thank u next, part of a burst of studio productivity from Grande in the latter half of 2018, during which she was mourning Miller, picking up the pieces following her broken engagement with Peter Davidson and recapturing her sense of self—a journey she has mainly addressed through song. "Me and Mac were really close. He was one of my best friends," singer-songwriter Njomza Vitia, who co-wrote "7 Rings," told NPR in February 2019. "So [Ariana and I] were just around each other all the time because of him...So after Mac passed, she was really hurt. I was really hurt. And I think it kind of brought us together a little bit closer because of what we were going through. We could understand each other. She surrounded herself with people who could understand." She continued, "The songs were written really, really fast. From [September to October], it was almost like a song a day...Ideas were just getting shouted out and people were just like adding on with other stuff. It's really cool. It was a lot of really amazing, boss, female energy."Grande told Vogue, "I'm a person who's been through a lot and doesn't know what to say about any of it to myself, let alone the world. I see myself onstage as this perfectly polished, great-at-my-job entertainer, and then in situations like this I'm just this little basket-case puddle of figuring it out...I have to be the luckiest girl in the world, and the unluckiest, for sure." She explained, "I'm walking this fine line between healing myself and not letting the things that I've gone through be picked at before I'm ready, and also celebrating the beautiful things that have happened in my life and not feeling scared that they'll be taken away from me because trauma tells me that they will be, you know what I mean?" Retreating to the studio after suffering a loss has always been her way of dealing. "My friends know how much solace music brings me, so I think it was an all-around, let's-get-her-there type situation," Grande told the was what brought her and Miller together in the first place, the pair collaborating on a remix of her song "The Way" together in 2013. Their effortless chemistry in the video translated into real life, though they didn't actually start dating for a couple of years. She subsequently joined Miller on the song (and appeared in the video for) "My Favorite Part," off of his 2016 album The Divine Feminine, featuring him singing, "I know you far too smart / Before things come together, they have to fall apart / It's been a while since I've been sober / This life can be so hard... I'd rather talk about you." "We have loved and adored and respected each other since the beginning, since before we even met, just because we were fans of each other's talent," Grande told Cosmopolitan in 2017. We weren't ready at all, though, to be together. It's just timing. We both needed to experience some things, but the love has been there the whole time."InstagramAfter Miller died, she wrote in tribute, "i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can't believe you aren't here anymore. i really can't wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i'm so mad, i'm so sad i don't know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i'm so sorry i couldn't fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you're okay now. rest." She was still engaged to Davidson at the time after a whirlwind courtship that had him ring shopping weeks after their first date, but she broke it off about six weeks after Miller died. A source told E! News at the time that she was "truly hurting from the death of Mac and feels very overwhelmed with her life right now...She's been battling her feelings and knows that she needs to take time for herself."On his podcast The Shane Show after his friend's death, Shane Powers acknowledged how much Grande—who was unfairly accused by merciless online critics of dropping Miller in his time of need when they broke up and he was arrested weeks later for leaving the scene of a suspected DUI crash—tried to help him. "Ariana and him were together and they were very much in love," Power recalled. "And I have to say, she was incredible when he was first sobering up. She was a f--king G to him. There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana. I saw that, I was around it. I took phone calls from her, 'How do I help? What do I do?' This little girl was unbelievably involved and helpful to him being healthy. Because whether he's an addict or not, the way that Mac partied was not healthy." But theirs was a relationship that changed both their lives, despite Grande being the only one left to unpack what they had and what it meant. Miller told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in an interview a few weeks before his critically acclaimed Swimming came out Aug. 3, 2018, "I was in love with somebody. We were together for two years. We worked through good times, bad times, stress, and everything else. And then it came to an end, and we both moved on. And it's that simple, you know?" At the time she was with someone new, and that was "strange," he admitted, but "I am happy for her and moving forward with her life, just as I'm sure she is with me." Grande has been able to move forward, but she has also made sure to honor her time with Miller and his legacy as an artist."Nothing mattered more to him than music ever," she told Lowe last May on Beats 1, sitting down for an Apple Music special (from home, due to the pandemic) during which she had the team spin Miller's "What's the Use?" and "Blue World." "He was the kind of person who woke up and rolled into the studio, like tumbled out of bed into the studio next door. Nothing was more important," Grande said. "Talk about losing track of time and forgetting to eat, remind yourself to take care of yourself and be a person. He was a person who gave literally every single second of his thoughts and time and life to music. And I think that is so evident in what he has left us with and just how many incredible and different bodies of work, everything from Blue Slide Park, to all the way through Divine Feminine, to Swimming, to Circles, to everything in between. "It's just such a beautiful gift that he kind of touched the world with, and I think the thing he'd want most is for us to just appreciate it and not forget about it."
New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon, in the midst of preparing for the Pats’ Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, called out pop star Ariana Grande with a tweet that blames her for Mac Miller’s death. Ariana Grande is the current diva in the pop music world and has been incredibly successful worldwide. There is just no way you can not know who Ariana is. Other than her successful singing career, she has been in the spotlight with relationships she had with other artists and/or celebrities. The arguably most memorable relationship is the special one she had with the late Mac Miller. These two had a relationship that did not last forever, but the passing of the American rapper showed how much of an impact he brought on Ariana. Mac is arguably the best partner Ariana had when it comes to their history. Perhaps there are some facts that you do not know about their relationship. With that, here are twenty little known facts about Ariana Grande's relationship with the late Mac Miller. 20 Their First Song Together Ariana and Mac's successful song "The Way" might have brought them into the spotlight, but their first song is actually a Christmas classic. Everyone and their grandmother know "Baby, It's Cold Outside," and that happened to be the song they collaborated on! That is an interesting way of working together for the first time. 19 The Way They Felt While the two were getting touchy and affectionate in the music video for "The Way," but their romantic relationship did not start there. The song came out in 2013 and it was amazing how much chemistry they had despite not being together at first. Once 2016 arrived, it would be the beginning of something beautiful. 18 Blossoming Relationship While these two did not hit it off right away, there was no doubt how wonderful they were as friends. Their first interaction was on Twitter, and then they would collaborate on future songs like those mention earlier. Their relationship blossomed gracefully, without a doubt. 17 Featured In Each Other's Songs We all know "The Way" and "Baby, It's Cold Outside" as the songs Ariana and Mac worked on, but there are others as well! They worked together on his song "My Favorite Part" and there is even a remix of "Into You" featuring the rapper. Musically, they are just great together. 16 One Of Many Tributes She Gave After Mac's passing, Ariana clearly shows how much Mac meant to her. At her concerts, she has mentioned countless times that one of her performances is dedicated to Mac. This shows that even though they broke up and she previously got engaged, Mac left a huge impact on her and she will never take it for granted. 15 Astrologically Compatible Astrologers, this will be a fun entry for you. While not everyone follows zodiac signs and just date the person for who they are, Ariana and Mac are compatible, according to their signs. Mac was born on January 19th, making him a Capricorn, while Ariana was born on June 26th, making her a Cancer. They are opposite signs, but compatible regardless. 14 Four Songs About Him Any song Ariana makes is integrated into her personal life. She pours her heart into the songs even if they are not necessarily perfect. There are four songs that possibly and/or definitely reference Mac. They are "Imagine," "Better Off," "Everytime," and "thank u, next." The last one clearly mentions him despite not being the entire main focus, while the other three are up for debate, but are probable for being able Mac. 13 The "Cinderella" In His Song It is very common for artists to reference others in their songs depending on the relationship. Mac wrote a song titled "Cinderella" and Ariana was quick to state that it was about her. The song is definitely not appropriate for young ones, but it does showcase how passionate their relationship was. 12 The Best Person Ever Ariana has endured a lot of hardships for her relationship with Mac and his passing. According to her interview with Vogue, she has mentioned her honesty with her fans while keeping other thoughts to herself. She also discussed her emotional breakdowns and stated that Mac was the best person ever and that he never deserved his demons. 11 For Manchester After the tragedy in Manchester, a benefit concert would occur to support those affected by the attack. Ariana came back with stronger energy and had many other artists by her side. Those include Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and of course, her boyfriend at the time, Mac. You can even see their incredible chemistry when singing "The Way." 10 It Hit Hard Mac has opened up to how much the breakup affected him. Along with his struggle with substance, he hadn't talked to Ariana after breaking up with her. He told Rolling Stone that he secluded himself and admitted that during the time, he heard the song "Despacito" for the first time as well. 9 What Happened After The Breakup The breakup was definitely a tough obstacle for Mac. Even though it would resolve slowly and surely, days after the breakup, he got arrested for a DUI and hit and run charges. He admitted to fleeing from the scene when police arrived at his house. 8 Remained Great Friends A breakup can test two people who really loved each other. Despite the issues going on, Ariana and Mac remained great friends. This is shown when Mac wished her well when Ariana became engaged to Pete Davidson. After all, they've known each other since 2012 so it was reliving that their friendship wasn't affected. 7 There For Her At Her Lowest When a tragic event happens while being associated with it affected Ariana greatly. The Manchester concert ended brutally and due to that, she had to postpone her tour and focus on healing. She went back to her hometown of Boca Raton, Florida and guess who was there for her? Good boyfriend, Mac Miller. 6 She Tried Her Best Going through addiction and overcoming it is truly difficult. Ariana did all she could to support Mac through that struggle. In his songs, Mac has stated numerous times that he struggles with it, and it was still happening while in a relationship with her. Even an angel like Ariana couldn't save him from what would eventually happen. 5 A Mature Approach While it was sad that Ariana and Mac split, once the news broke out that Ariana would be engaged to Pete Davidson, Mac was really mature on the situation. In an interview with Apple Music, Mac stated, "I am happy for her and moving forward with her life just as I’m sure she is with me." 4 She Moved Fast Literally a month after Ariana broke up with Mac, she got into a relationship with SNL alumni, Pete Davidson. Not only that, they got engaged. Even though Ariana was happy with Pete at the time, it was definitely way too fast regardless of how long they've known each other before being in a relationship. 3 How Long It Lasted These two were just perfect together, but unfortunately, no relationship lasts forever. While they have known each other since 2012, Ariana and Mac did not become official until 2016. And then around May 2018, they split up. With a lot happening to Mac, it was too much for Ariana to stay with him. 2 A Scary Silence After Mac's passing, many of his friends, family, and fellow artists mourned greatly. Ariana definitely took it hard, but she was pretty quiet about it after posting on Instagram. People were blaming her for his death, making her disable comments on the social media site. 1 He Was An Angel The passing of Mac really affected Ariana. She made tons of tributes to him and honored his memory in the best ability possible. After breaking off her engagement with Pete and writing "thank u, next," she thanked her exes. This includes Mac while claiming he was an angel. Ariana Grande Talks Mac Miller, Manchester and More in Candid Vogue Profile. "Let's please stop doing that," she added. "Of course I didn't share how hard or scary it was while it was happening but it was. The writer behind a new book on Mac Miller has offered his take on the late rapper’s relationship with pop singer Ariana Grande. Paul Cantor’s book, Most Dope: The Extraordinary Life of Mac Miller, was released today (18 January), a day before Miller would have turned 30. Cantor, an early fan of Miller’s music, spoke to a number of his friends for the project, as well as drawing on his own encounters with Miller before the artist’s death, aged 26, from an accidental overdose in book reportedly avoids any salacious details regarding Miller’s relationship with Grande, but does state that she was “a rock” for Miller through his struggles with substance checked into rehab for around three weeks in 2016, with Grande making several visits to see him during his treatment. The book also covers how Miller supported Grande after the Manchester Arena bombing at her concert in 2017, performing their duet “The Way” with her at a benefit couple split in early 2018, sparking a media frenzy, particularly after Grande began dating Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson. Grande was later accused by fans of pushing Miller over the edge, prompting her to say that their relationship had grown “toxic” despite her attempts to support him. (Getty Images for MTV)Cantor suggested the media and the public projected how they assumed Miller felt about Grande and Davidson, without knowing the facts.“I think in the moment that they were together, there was definitely a real thing,” he told the Daily Beast. “You can see by the actions explored in the book that it was real. That’s why I don't think, to his credit, he never said anything at all about it, other than it was a relationship that was good while it lasted. He wanted to give it the dignity that it deserves.”He continued: “There was a narrative that was being put out there about his relationship that maybe wasn’t 100 percent accurate. He was becoming a little bit of a tabloid version of himself, and this is not what this guy was about. He’s a really deep human, and put a lot of his life into his work. What's that line, ‘It’s easy to write, you just open up a vein and bleed?’ I mean, he was bleeding, it’s all over his music.”Grande released a lengthy and moving tribute to Miller following his death in 2018, calling him her “dearest friend”.Most Dope has caused some controversy due to pushback from Miller’s family, who refused to be interviewed for it and went so far as to request that his fans avoid it.“This book is not authorised or endorsed by Malcolm’s family and has been written by a writer with whom Malcolm did not have a relationship,” a statement issued last year said. “Furthermore, the writer had no meaningful access to those that were closest to Malcolm – friends, family, collaborators etc. In fact, the writer of this book was made aware at the outset of the process of writing this book that the family and friends of Malcolm were uncomfortable with him authoring this biography, yet he chose to proceed against our polite insistence that he not do disservice to Malcolm’s legacy through writing a book without legitimate primary sources.”Cantor said he had actually received “a lot of support” over the book, “contrary to what was put out there”.“I had a lot of support from people around [Miller],” he said. “Their support, actually, is one of the reasons why I even pursued it. Ariana Grande remembered her late ex, Mac Miller, as she marked the 10th anniversary of their song "The Way" over the weekend. The singer reposted the music video, which was originally shared by a fan account, on her Instagram Story, and wrote along the bottom in tiny white font, "I love you," presumably to Miller. When Ariana Grande claimed that this song is about her on Twitter, she also implied that she was the one who left the “toxic” relationship she had with Mac Miller. I mean, in fairness, he was a drug addict; if someone has an addiction problem, be it to alcohol, drugs or whatever, then they are toxic.

However, in a September 2016 interview with People, Mac said the song had been written beforehand and that working on it together is what led to their close friendship being rekindled. Additionally, after the two split up in May 2018, Ariana revealed that the only song written about her on The Divine Feminine is “Cinderella.”Ask us a question about this songWhat has Mac said about the song? [Ariana and I] hadn’t spoken in a while, ‘cause we’ve been friends forever … I hit her up like, “Yo, I have this song for you.” I was lying, I didn’t have a song yet, but … I knew I wanted her to be apart of this album. … I write this crazy story in my head all the time like, “What’s the next song that we get on together?” There’s even a playlist in my laptop that’s all these beat titles like, “She would sound good on this one,” or “I like this, but it’s not it.” I’m going through, and then the simplest canvas was the one to paint on, you know? I wrote the hook. I stayed up the whole entire night deciding if I wanted to sing or rap. … I don’t even fucking remember what the line is at this point, but I wrote some clever line that I was married to. Finally, I’m like, “I’ll go to sleep. Fuck it.” First thing I do when I wake up is sing that verse, and I sent it to [Ariana] and we set up a studio session. … Watching her write that and sing that was really awesome for me, because I remember us making songs when we were young, and seeing her just command it and be like, “I'ma do this, this, this, this,” and I’m like, “Hell yeah.” You even hear me in the background of the record—she hits this note and you hear the talkback mic of me being like, “Yeah!” I was really into it. via Audience NetworkWere Mac Miller and Ariana Grande dating?Rumors circulated about Mac and Ariana’s dating relationship ever since their duet on “The Way” in 2013. At the time, they were merely “homies,” but a few days prior to this single’s release, Ariana confirmed their relationship by posting a photo on Instagram of them embracing, with the caption “baabyyy.”Have Mac Miller and Ariana Grande collaborated before? Is there a live performance of the song?CreditsRecorded AtEast West Recording Studios, Hollywood, CA & Encore Recording Studios, Burbank, CARelease DateSeptember 8, 2016Tags

Ariana Grande has disabled her comments on Instagram after some fans began to blame her for ex-boyfriend Mac Miller’s death on Friday. Miller, 26, was pronounced dead at 11:51 at his Studio City, California, home, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE. A cause of death is yet to be determined, but a source tells PEOPLE the rapper had gone into cardiac arrest after appearing to suffer a drug overdose. Grande and Miller, who struggled with drugs throughout his life, dated for two years before separating in May. The split came as a shock to fans as Miller raved about the singer on Twitter in April after she released her single “No Tears Left to Cry.” “I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form, at all times regardless of how our relationship changes or what the universe holds for each of us!” the singer wrote. Grande’s fans came to her defense on Twitter writing it wasn’t the singer’s fault Miller had died. “Just noticed Ariana Grande disabled comments on her Instagram account after a barrage of Mac Miller-related comments,” one user tweeted. “Recognize the true problem here, rather than using someone else as a scapegoat & continuing the cycle. All so sad & nauseating.” Another shared the same sentiment, tweeting, “The amount of tweets blaming Ariana Grande for what happened to Mac Miller is disgusting, his addiction and lack of help is what drove this to happen, don’t point the finger and blame.” A different fan wrote, “Ariana Grande is not responsible for Mac Miller’s death. Stop hating her. She’s a person like you who also has feelings. I’m sure she’s having a hard time. I wish patience to her and his family.” Early that morning, the rapper was arrested for DUI and hit and run after he struck a power pole in the San Fernando Valley with his Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon and fled the scene; after law enforcement officers matched the vehicle’s license plates to Miller’s address, they arrested him at his home, a Los Angeles Police Department public information officer previously told PEOPLE. Following his arrest, a fan blamed Miller’s crash on Grande tweeted the rapper had “dumped him for another dude after he poured his heart out on a ten song album to her called the divine feminine” and called the album “the most heartbreaking thing happening in Hollywood.” Grande responded directly, tweeting, “how absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them, which btw isn’t the case (just Cinderella is ab me).” Her Twitter statement continued: “I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be. I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming / blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his s— together is a very major problem.” The rapper went on to open up about his arrest during a conversation with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 on Apple Music in July. “I made a stupid mistake. I’m a human being,” Miller explained. “But it was the best thing that could have happened. Best thing that could have happened. I needed that. I needed to run into that light pole and literally have the whole thing stop.” However, Miller went on to let all of his fans know that they shouldn’t worry about him, because he was doing fine. 2016 MTV Video Music Awards - Backstage & Audience Mac Miller and Ariana Grande | Credit: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic “I have people that care about me and fans that love my music and it’s a beautiful relationship with them — people who have been with me through being a 19-year-old wide-eyed kid to being a self-destructive depressed drug user to making love music to all these different stages. Then they see something like that and they worry,” he explained. “So your first reaction is, ‘Let me tell them I’m cool.’ ” During the interview, Miller also explained that both he and Grande had moved on since their split — and that he wished her well. “I was in love with somebody. We were together for two years. We worked through good times, bad times, stress and everything else. And then it came to an end and we both moved on. And it’s that simple,” he said. “It’s all positive energy,” he added. “I am happy for her and [the fact that she’s] moving forward with her life, just as I’m sure she is with me.” xnEnUK.
